This is your home page
This page will open first when people come to your domain name – if they have bookmarked a specific page in your web site, perhaps your calendar page, they will go there but most visitors will land here.
What it should say
Pages contain static information (does not change much) The Home page will tell your visitors about your organization, what you do and why that is important to them. News, announcements and reports will go into the News section (a blog) that is much easier to update and will generate an RSS feed for syndicating your news.
The Slideshow
The slideshow above uses photos you’ve provided. To include new photos, they need to be resized to 500 pixels wide and cropped to 230 pixels high. Photos taken in landscape format will work best. Text panels can be inserted or you can overlay text on your photos as you make the slides. The size can be adjusted, but all slides need to be the same size The software will show many more slides if you want, the example is set up to use 5.
Photographs
Static photographs may be inserted into any page or news article. They can be placed where you want them and sized to fit the page. Small versions can be linked to the full size photo to make it easier to see just by clicking the photo.
The Sidebar
The side bar (over there, to your right) shows up on every page. It lists your resource partners, your latest news posts (I’ve set up some example posts just so something is there, those can be deleted once you’re ready to take over) access to the archive of news posts, and a way to search you news posts based on category. there is also a search box at the top that will allow a visitor to look for a specific topic or name.
The Nav Menu
Across the page, just under your header banner is a list of pages included in your web site. Pages can be added, deleted or changed as you need from the admin area. Click the page name to go to that page.
What’s Next
What I’ll need now is the actual information (and photos) you want to have displayed on each page of this web site. If this info is e-mailed to me I can copy and paste your text into the template, meaning I will get much more done in the time allotted than if I have to read it off a printed page and re-type it all. Working together, we can build you a great web site for your organization.
Once I’ve done my part I will train your appointed web master to use the interface to post news articles and make minor changes or updates to the web site. We’ll need to schedule an appointment for a day and time that is convenient for both uf us to spend an hour going over the “dashboard” and the controls it contains.
