Dalas Miller and his wife, Carol, owners of Miller Recycling in Newport, will receive the SBA (Small Business Administration) Tennessee Exporter of the Year Award on September 26th. Presenting the award will be SBA Tennessee District Director, Walter Perry and Tennessee Small Business Development Center Director from Knoxville, Larry Rossini.
Rossini said he nominated the firm for the award because in over ten years of operation, the company has expanded from a 10,000 square foot building to a 105,000-plus square foot building and has plans to further grow the operation.
The company is a family endeavor employing three generations of Miller family members. Dalas and his wife, Carol, own the company, with Dalas and his son, Tim, overseeing day-to-day operations and sales while Carol manages the office and daughter, Melissa, the finances. Tim’s family, Donna and Zach, work the production line, shipping and receiving.
The company is environmentally sensitive with a motto “to keep all plastics out of the landfill at any cost”. It obtains the material for recycling from manufacturing facilities and other organizations who would incur land fill charges on approximately seventy five percent of their waste were it not for the presence of Miller Recycling. The company is sought out because of the diversity of products it is able to recycle and the quality of the end products after processing. Miller says approximately two thirds of his production is exported. The family learned the business through about forty years of hands-on labor in the plastics industry.
“Miller Recycling is respected by their competitors and sought out for consultation because of their knowledge of the plastics industry,” notes Rossini.
“Dalas Miller has built a successful company resting on a foundation of hard work and determination and the family company’s environmental sensitivity and values of customer service and quality products are an example for all exporting companies,” says Tennessee SBA District Director, Walter Perry.
The award ceremony will take place at noon on Friday, September 26th 2014 at Miller Recycling, 131 Vernier Ave. in Newport. We congratulate Miller Recycling on their award and thank them for their contribution to reducing plastics in the landfill.
